DR.IAN STEVENSON E SEUS ESTUDOS SOBRE REENCARNAÇÃO

Médico, pesquisador, professor de Psiquiatra,diretor da Divisão de Estudos da Personalidade e Ciências Neurocomportamentais da Universidade de Virgínia (EUA), nasceu na cidade de Montreal, Quebec, Canadá.

Suas pesquisas sobre reencarnação somaram mais de 40 anos, em todo o mundo, num total de 3.000 casos de crianças que se lembravam de vidas anteriores. Sendo alertado para a imensidão de casos que iam aparecendo, mesmo não acreditando na reencarnação, este homem de ciência decidiu investigar esses fenômenos.

De toda uma vida dedicada a estas pesquisas resultou um imenso trabalho  realizado em campo como The Explanatory Value of the Idea of Reicarnation, The Evidence of Man’s Survival After Death, entre outros.

Em 1961 após ter tido conhecimento de casos de crianças indianas que desde muito cedo se referiam com precisão a fatos, pessoas, locais vividos em suposta vida anterior, o Dr. Stevenson embarcou para a Índia para investigar estes casos. 

O seu primeiro trabalho, de cunho científico, Twenty Cases Suggestive of Reincarnation, mais tarde editado em livro, foi publicado pela Sociedade de Pesquisas Psíquicas Americana em 1966.

Posteriormente publicou uma série de 4 volumes editados pela Universidade da Virgínia (University Press of Virgínia) e em 1987 Children Who Remember Previous Lives.

Em 1997 Ian Stevenson publicou aquilo a que se pode chamar a sua obra prima, em 3 volumes: Where Reincarnation and Biology Intersect: A Synopsis, Reincarnation and Biology: A contribution to the Etiology of Birthmarks and Birth Defects. Volume I: Birthmarks (1200 páginas). Volume II: Birth Defects and Other Anomalies (110 páginas).

No Brasil, tivemos o engenheiro Hernâni Guimarães Andrade, na mesma linha de estudos: "As implicações da reencarnação ultrapassarão as meras conjecturas de cunho doutrinário e religioso que formam a maioria dos actuais discursos e debates a seu respeito. É provável que, além das mudanças que estão ocorrendo nas áreas da Psicologia e da Psiquiatria, a ideia da reencarnação seja incorporada à Biologia, e particularmente à Genética como uma lei natural".

Este aspecto já está implicitamente sugerido no título da última obra do Prof. Stevenson: Reincarnation and Biology: A Contribution to the Etiology of Birthmarks and Birth Defects. (Reencarnação e Biologia: Uma Contribuição à Etiologia das Marcas-de-Nascença e Defeitos de Nascença)

Stevenson aposentou-se em 2002, deixando o seu trabalho para sucessores, dirigidos pelo Dr. Bruce Greyson. Dr. Jim Tucker, um psiquiatra infantil, continua com trabalho de Ian Stevenson com crianças, concentrando-se em casos norte-americanos.
